Sustainability Program

Ozark Regional Transit believes we have a duty to our grandchildren to preserve our environment and minimize the use of Mother Earth's limited resources. Aside from the obvious recycling actions, we have been doing the following action that would be part of a sustainability program:

  • We recently completed the construction of a fueling facility allowing early access to bio-diesel fuel.
  • We switched all of our diesel engines to ultra low sulfur bio-diesel fuel
  • We have recently purchased 8 entervans to double our fuel efficiency.
  • We recycle all of our spent engine oil.
  • We heat one of our buildings with a Waste Oil Heating System which is fueled by any of: spent oil, used transmission and antifreeze fluids.
  • We recycle steel whenever our facilities are modified.
  • We have added blinds & canopies to lower our energy usage.
  • We have installed windows to increase natural light to reduce our energy consumption.
  • We recap all of our tires to keep reusing the rubber.
  • We strongly encourage paperless office communications.
  • We sell the concepts of mass transit to our community in order to reduce:
    - energy consumption
    - environmental pollutants
    - green field destruction for additional highways & parking lots
