Sustainability

Ozark Regional Transit believes we have a duty to our grandchildren to preserve our environment and minimize the use of the Planet Earth's limited resources. Aside from the obvious recycling actions, we have been doing the following action that would be part of a sustainability program:

·         We have planted numerous trees to shade and cool our buildings and reduce our summer energy usage.
·         We have added blinds & window canopies to lower our energy usage
·         We have installed windows on our maintenance buildings to increase natural light that reduces our energy consumption.
·         We have changed our lights in our buildings to hi-efficient fluorescent bulbs.
·         We heat one of our buildings with a Waste Oil Heating System which is fueled by any of the following: spent oil, used transmission and antifreeze fluids.
·         We have applied for grants for geothermal heating and cooling, solar panels, additional insulation in our buildings to further reduce our footprint.
·         We have purchased 8 paratransit minivans that doubled our fuel efficiency.
·         We recycle all of our spent engine oil.
·         We recycle used steel, aluminium parts.
·         We use “recapped” tires to reduce the amount of tires going to landfills.
·         Drivers are encouraged not to unnecessarily idle their engines.
·         We strongly encourage paperless office communications.
·         We completed the construction of a fuelling facility allowing early access to bio-diesel fuel
·         We sell the concepts of mass transit to our community in order to reduce:
- energy consumption
- environmental pollutants
- green field destruction for additional highways & parking lots
